The Charlie Hebdo shooting was used by various parties to justify various suggestions that would advance their own agendas, generally in the area of reducing civil rights and freedom:
- increased surveillance by the government
- anti-blasphemy laws
- anti-Muslim sentiment
- anti-immigration laws
