Bill Donohue of The Catholic League said, on 2008-07-24:

{{#lst:2008-07-24 Myers Desecrates the Eucharist|Donohue_quote}}

(ellipses are in the original)

The comparison with burning crosses and displaying swastikas is, of course, absurd. Those acts were intended to intimidate and threaten, and the threat was both very real and often lethal. PZ was not threatening anybody or their property, unless you take the stance that ownership of a Communion wafer is not transferred – in which case his crime is the destruction of one communion wafer (a mass-produced commodity costing roughly a penny and given out for the purpose of being ceremonially eaten), not threats to any other property or individuals.
