Overview
An atrocity is (tentatively) defined as any act satisfying all of the following conditions:
- great harm is committed to many people
- relatively few people benefit from the act
- those who committed the act are among those who committed it
- those who committed the act did so knowing that it was causing harm

- 1956+: Minamata disease
- 1945-08-06 Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki: approximately 200,000 lives lost in the (so far) only uses of nuclear weapons against humans
