CITOKATE is an acronym which stands for Criticism Is The Only Known Antidote To Error. It seems to have been coined by science fiction author David Brin.

CITOKATE is an expression of the idea that there is no formula or rule which can prevent an individual or group from making mistakes; the only way to minimize error is to allow the decisions of the individual or group in question to be exposed to as much outside review – "criticism" in the constructive sense &ndash as is possible.

This is highly correlated with the software development maxim "many eyeballs make all bugs shallow" (Linus's law). Both of these philosophies are integral to the concept of transparency as a positive force in social organization.
