Overview

Christofascism is a form of religious extremism in which Christian beliefs are misrepresented as being supportive of an ideology which is essentially fascistic or at least intensely authoritarian. The specific beliefs misrepresented sometimes include the teachings of Jesus Christ but often carefully overlook them, using Christ as nothing more than a figurehead around which to rally the faithful, due to the very anti-authoritarian nature of many of those teachings. (For this reason, Christofascism is arguably part of the neocon reality inversion.)

Protestant fundamentalism is the major source of Christofascism in the United States.
