There was a claim widely circulated amongst the American right wing in early 2014 that President Obama had issued an executive order placing government monitors in newsrooms as a prelude to re-imposing the Fairness Doctrine [W] or even taking control of the news media.
The very minimal substance of this rumor appears to originate with a study done for the Federal Communications Commission.
