An Issue, in this context, relates to this definition of the word: "A point in debate or controversy on which the parties take affirmative and negative positions; a presentation of alternatives between which to choose or decide." (Wiktionary). An issue is a matter which (1) requires a decision in order to prevent harmful action and (2) about which there is disagreement. (This definition is a first draft and may be subject to revision.)

Issuepedia attempts to document contentious issues and to unfold the sequence of connections by which the various points of view were arrived at, thereby making it clear where the conflict arises and (hopefully) thereby preventing small disagreements from propagating into larger, more damaging ones.

Issue writings are one of the main Article Types within Issuepedia.
