Comment on Susan Fowler which I thought better of:

Belatedly reading the original story... I've gotten to the point in my thinking where if HR refuses to take action, I'd post the screenshots -- unredacted -- in a part of the workspace with high traffic, and let the chips fall where they may. I no longer have any sympathy for people who pull this kind of thing.

(And if that didn't get positive results, then I'd add the HR dialogue.)

...but I've never been in a situation remotely like that (unless you count broadcasting a complaint about a manager's managerial skills rather than personal behavior, which I _have_ done), and it's easy to make suggestions when you don't have to pay the price.

(On the other hand, I'm so totally fed up with stupid managerial tricks and corporate powermongery that I wouldn't really care anymore what kind of shitstorm got started. I will work in a place that is safe and civil and for the public good, or they won't have the benefit of my work.)

...and... continuing to read... OMG... after the first bit of bafflegab about the transfer being blocked, I would be totally telling HR (calmly) that they were full of shit. (Excuse me? I have no record of ever saying that, so you must be imagining things. Maybe you should try working in another department.)

So, yeah, this makes me angrycat -- even though I kinda knew it's not at all uncommon. :-/

Lucido's response implicitly raises the eternal issue of whether to lay down the boundaries and risk being fired (as my angrycat would do) or to focus on staying on the team in order to prevent all the sanity from evaporating. I'd say that an intrinsically tough call, and depends heavily on the details.

...and I don't know if any of that is sensible
