  • Epistemological anarchism - my response:
    After reading a bit, I think I disagree with him -- though not strongly, as he has some valid points.
    The institution of science often does slip into dogmatism, especially around certain customs. The customs emerged to serve a purpose, but can too easily become shibboleths used to maintain power-structures.
    Some of the software governance ideas I'm working on are arguably re-engineering of the scientific process to reduce problems like that.

idk what to say anymore. it's here. every hypothetical you've ever pondered about living in nazi germany, now is the time to execute. the fascists are here, they have seized the bastions of the state, and every day they are taking steps along a playbook with which we are all terrifyingly familiar

the major difference in my mind between US fascists and the nazis is that the nazis wanted to consolidate private enterprise within the state, whereas US fascists want to dismantle the state except for the military and the police

but like, we got child prisons. we got concentration camps. we got citizens being stripped of citizenship for political reasons and non-citizens being subject to war crimes. we got openly fascist federal departments, we got fascists in office, we got churches hiding families to protect them from the police, we got blackshirt-equivalents shooting up schools and journals on the regular, and damn if we don't have an opposition party devoted to normalizing it all

i wanna talk through this article i just linked cuz i'm blown away

a denaturalization program just started up which seeks to strip citizenship from folks, and norma borgono is their first target they want to deport her for helping her boss commit fraud. except, she never got paid for helping him beyond her basic wage, and when the cops showed up she helped put her boss behind bars > When the FBI discovered the scheme, Borgono, who as his secretary had falsified paperwork, cooperated with the prosecutors and helped their case against her former boss—who is now also being sued for denaturalization. Borgono took a plea deal and was sentenced in 2012 to a year of house arrest. According to the accounts from her trial, she never made any money beyond her normal salary during the scheme. idk, i'm honestly speechless like here's where we're at: a woman is going to a concentration camp for, uh, helping the cops? trying to make a wage?(edited)

if it weren't for the boss getting denaturalized too, i'd say this was a signal to other employers that if a worker helps you pull some illegal shit, it's on them not you
