About
Performative leftism is a rhetorical deception in which someone socially signals their alliance with some set of left-wing causes in order to gain credibility for their right-wing arguments.
Tactics used in performative leftism include abuse-mirroring, to gain sympathy for the speaker.
Examples
- Christina Hoff Sommers (see Social Justice Wiki), member of the right-wing American Enterprise Institute, often positions herself as a feminist while in fact advocating anti-feminist talking-points.
- Frozen fruit status quo warrior: someone whose passion for social justice seems to begin and end with "free speech" (for anyone who agrees with them, but not for anyone else)
- TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminism) ideology typically relies on a set of intensely anti-feminist beliefs, often claiming that the science clearly supports their position (which it does not) and thus appealing to leftists via the false flags of both feminism and science.
