About

The Big Stick is a blog with a primarily conservative view but which does not automatically dismiss progressive ideas.

The blog's title refers to Teddy Roosevelt's famous quote "Speak softly and carry a big stick, and you will go far." The blog's "about" page credits Roosevelt as the "father of American Progressivism and a believer in living a 'strenuous life'." It should be noted that while the phrase "big stick" might seem to echo modern neoconservative thuggery, Roosevelt's big stick was often used against the powerful, favoring the underdog.

The site is run and written by blogger Mike of Louisville, Kentucky.
