The 1994 Republican revolution refers to the 1994 United States House Elections when the US Republican Party gained a majority of seats in the House for the first time since 1954. This was probably due to a combination of circumstances:

The long duration of the Democratic majority (40 years)
A series of scandals under Democratic leadership
Conservative backlash against president Bill Clinton
The GOP's offering of the Contract with America (written by Newt Gingrich, Robert Walker, Richard Armey, Bill Paxon, Tom DeLay, and others), which promised to take significant steps to reverse the tide of both corruption and Clinton-style liberalism, as part of the GOP's 1994 platform
