It's good that there’s been *some* movement to address this need, but if we had had CAP/MR-DD then our Josh wouldn’t have been in crisis, so it’s kind of a Catch-22. (…unless the “Supports” waiver is sufficient funding — but my understanding is that it doesn’t cover residential services.)
Did Salima Mabry’s Joshua have CAP? Those slots have never been easy to get, and with the budget cuts in the last 2 years they’re essentially impossible for any but a handful of the most needy across NC. Our Josh has been on the waiting list since 2008.
Fortunately we found a new facility in Virginia which is funded by Medicaid; if not for that, we’d still be in crisis. (Now we just have our own financial crisis to deal with, the fallout of 2+ years of dealing with the Josh crisis.)
