Power structure meme

"Power structure meme" is a term of convenience for any idea or meme whose main reason for existance is to reinforce a power structure.

This article may need to be renamed soon; I'm thinking "memetic social control mechanism" is a more accurate name, but it's kind of unwieldy (and the category will need renaming too, which is a tedious process) so I'm not switching to it straight away; perhaps something better will suggest itself. In any case, some of the things I've been calling memes are probably better termed "memetic mechanisms" – analogous to the means by which a virus reproduces and spreads – where a "meme" is more like the virus itself. --Woozle 09:34, 28 January 2007 (EST)
