About
A straw man is any argument which misrepresents an opposing view in a way that is trivially easy to argue against. Naive or willing listeners may not recognize that the opposing argument itself has not been refuted, but merely an inaccurate "straw man" representation of it.
Related
A straw man is the opposite of a steel man, which attempts in good faith to strengthen an otherwise weak argument.
