Many people fear that the democratic process will in some way be subverted with regard to this election, including the following possibilities:

* The election will be rigged, as were the 2000 and 2004 elections, and another neoconservative kleptocrat supported (perhaps covertly) by the current administration will officially win even though an accurate vote would have elected a different candidate.

* Bush will declare martial law, or otherwise use the enhanced presidential powers he has been allowed to claim – possibly in the wake of some kind of national emergency like the one which allowed him to gain those powers – and there will either be no election (completing the next step in the Nehemiah Scudder scenario) or one that is severely curtailed and inaccurate.

Overview

This page is for information about the upcoming 2008 United States presidential election, which is bound to be a watershed event whichever way it goes.

Many people fear that the democratic process will in some way be subverted with regard to this election, including the following possibilities:

Candidates

Listing of people considered either candidates or possible candidates:

 • Barack Obama
 • Hillary Clinton: much discussed, not officially running yet; hated by Republicans; David Brin says "No senators!"
 • John Edwards: has formally announced candidacy
 • John McCain launched presidential campaign on 2006-04-25
 • Rudy Guiliani (is he running, or just campaigning for other Republicans?): current mayor of New York; says "If a Democrat is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001.... Never ever again will this country ever be on defense waiting for (terrorists) to attack us if I have anything to say about it. And make no mistake, the Democrats want to put us back on defense!" (This statement is so full of... gaaah.)
