A rough attempt to delineate the difference between worldview and other related concepts:

  • worldviews: different styles of thinking about reality
    • ideologies: particular organized sets of beliefs about reality
      • religion: any of a large number of mystically-oriented ideologies
        • (list of religions can go here)
      • science: a particular ideology which values observation and rational analysis
      • postmodernism: a quasi-ideology which asserts that reality is a social construct

...or should it be:

  • worldviews: different styles of thinking about reality
    • empirical: worldviews primarily valuing observation and analysis
      • science: a worldview which values observation and rational analysis
      • postmodernism: a worldview which asserts that reality is a social construct
    • mystical: worldviews primarily valuing reflection and intuition
      • religion: any of a large number of mystically-oriented ideologies
        • (list of religions can go here)

...or does "postmodernism" belong under mystical, since most of the "analysis" is more intuitive than logical? Perhaps this is really a multi-dimensional spectrum, as in quantifying political ideologies.

...and how does "philosophy" (as in "3 a : a system of philosophical concepts b : a theory underlying or regarding a sphere of activity or thought <the philosophy of war>; 4 a : the most basic beliefs, concepts, and attitudes of an individual or group m-w.com) fit in with this scheme?
