Where are we trying to get to, right now and in the long run?

At one level, this is a question we should answer as individuals. We need to know what motivates each of us -- from immediate needs to long-term dreams for the seventh generation and beyond. Those motivations and goals should never be given up "for the common good", and should continue to be respected even if they have to be deferred in order to meet other goals that the group has decided on.

The actions decided on by the group should reflect the goals we have in common -- the intersection of the multidimensional Venn diagrams of our individual goals. The evidence I've seen shows that we all (including conservatives, even) have a lot more in common than our leaders and our media would have us believe.

How we arrive at those decisions is a subject for a future post.
