Overview

An individual or group which believes that sexual abstinence should be taught or promoted as the best (or only) method of contraception is generally described as "pro-abstinence".

  • Sexual abstinence as contraception is a bit like hygiene as a way of not getting sick.
    • It may help reduce the number of cases, but you still have to have the tools for dealing with the cases that still happen (i.e. people having intercourse). (Anti-sex-education groups are kind of like Christian Scientists on this issue... in fact, Christian groups in general seem to believe that certain things should be left "up to God" to decide, regardless of the harm which may be done by not intervening.)
