It is frequently claimed that the right of freedom of religion is not freedom from religion – in other words that the freedom to choose the nature of one's religious activity does not include the right not to engage in such activity at all.
These claims are typically stated as facts without any supporting argument, and are inconsistent with the ideals of a free society.
