A support base is, generally:

  • People who belong to a group,
  • Who support the group's aims, and
  • Who will act on the group's behalf, preferably with minimal discussion.

A support base can be strengthened either by increasing quantity (i.e. more members) – although this also increases the cost of maintenance – or by increasing the average loyalty or fidelity of the group's members.
