About

The size of the legal code is one aspect of government that many people would like to make smaller.

Legal systems a centralized state have a tendency to become ever more complicated and unfathomable, for a number of reasons including:

  • shifts power towards the powerful (those with the resources to unravel the code and exploit it)
  • shifts power towards those who make the code (allowing more leeway for granting small favors which go unnoticed by the public)
  • shifts power towards the enforcers (who can selectively enforce obscure laws for personal gain)
