Foreword

Woozle received this email from a vbz.net customer on 2008-05-10. From the headers, the person who sent it to her on 05-09 had also sent it to 6 other people, and the customer forwarded it to another 20 addresses aside from mine. Additional evidence indicates that it had been forwarded at least one additional time before the last remaining set of headers.

It may be the email Barack Obama refers to in this phone interview, or possibly a variant.

As far as I can tell, the quote is completely false. Compare, for example, with the quote in this article about the whole flag pin non-issue (which, this email would seem to indicate, some people are nonetheless taking seriously). --Woozle 11:37, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

Subject: Fw: As a veteran this is hard to swallow

Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to  the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171,   During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the  heart.

'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be  perceived as taking sides,'  Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in  the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And  the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like  the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'

Are you kidding me!!!!  Why would any patriotic American citizen vote for this man to be president.  He apparently doesn't think much of our American heritage.  I can't fathom having a President that will not stand and salute the American flag, won't wear an American flag pin, and doesn't even like our National Anthem.  Wake up, America , before it's too late.

'I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial.'  – Barack Hussein Obama.
