The suffix "cis-" is a Latin word meaning "[the [area|space]] on [this|the [same|near]] side of". It is used in vocabulary that applies to multiple disciplines, including:
- geography (e.g. cisatlantic)
- astronomy (e.g. cislunar)
- chemistry (as a standalone adjective)
- gender, where "cis" is often used informally as a standalone word synonymous with "cisgender"
- Myth: Cis is derogatory
