FUD

FUD is an acronym standing for "Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt", which refers to a technique wherein misleading but not wholly inaccurate information is spread in order to supplant accurate information, thus causing many people to reach a different conclusion than that which they would have reached in the presence of accurate information.
