A lot of attacks on the "public option" seem to focus on the idea that it is like "socialized medicine" in other countries such as Canada and the UK, which are commonly supposed to be horrible. My understanding is that healthcare in those countries is actually quite good, especially on a basic "family doctor" level. See for example the 4th comment on this page -- http://www.newmajority.com/what-if-we-win-the-healthcare-fight#comment-58644 -- which implies that waiting for a GP appointment in Canada could take months. My understanding is that this is totally wrong.
Some facts about modern examples of "socialized medicine" would be good ammunition for deflating this fearmongery.
Thanks.
