I'm not sure what I was getting at when I wrote this down originally; maybe it's intended to illustrate how God is used as a fake explanation, but as such it rambles a bit. It also gets into other God-related questions. Maybe I can rewrite it to be a sort of comprehensive Guide to God (a companion volume to Oolon Colluphid's tetralogy of philosophical blockbusters: Where God Went Wrong, Some More of God's Greatest Mistakes, Who is this God Person Anyway?, and of course Well, That About Wraps It Up for God) or God FAQ.
- Q: Where did [fill in the blank] come from?
- A: God made it.
- Q: Where did God come from?
- A: It's beyond our comprehension.
- Q: How do we know it's beyond our comprehension?
- A: Because we don't understand it.
- Q: Don't understand what, exactly?
- A: Where God came from.
- Q: But has God ever tried to explain it to us?
(Not sure what the official Goddist response to this is, so I won't try to insert an answer which might be merely a straw man.)
- Q: How do we know there is a God?
- A: Because someone had to be there to create the universe.
- Q: How do we know the universe had to be created by someone?
(Again, not sure what the Goddist answer is.)
- Q: How do we know it was God that created it?
- A: Because it's here, so he must have.
- Q: But how do we know it didn't get here some other way?
(Essentially the same question as the last unanswered one.)
