About
It was reported on Bundy Ranch's Facebook page that they discovered, after the armed confrontation with federal agents, several cows buried on the federal land to which they claim ownership.
The Bundy family argues that this shows incompetence and inhumanity on the part of the US Bureau of Land Management and its agents, therefore giving further moral weight to the Bundy claims of ownership.
Conclusions
Tentatively, it looks like this is what happened:
- Because Bundy refused to take his cattle off the federal land for over 20 years after being ordered to do so, the BLM finally had to round them up.
- During the round-up, the BLM felt it necessary to shoot two bulls because they presented a safety hazard.
- Also during the round-up (and possibly because of delays due to the atandoff), several additional cattle collapsed from heat and dehydration, and either had to be put down or died on their own.
- These cattle (including the bulls) were buried on-site, rather than being taken away.
- The Bundy family has now discovered the burial site, and is making political hay out of it -- despite the fact that none of this would have happened if they had removed their cattle from federal land when ordered to do so back in 1993, or at any time during the next two decades.?
