About

The January 6 insurrection was an attempt to subvert the 2020 presidential election, which would have been a violation of the democratic process in general. An organized and armed mob broke into the US Capitol building on 2021/01/06, shouting threats to kill at least two politicians (calls of "hang Mike Pence!" were most notable; there were also threats against Nancy Pelosi).

This event was merely the most visible manifestation so far of the Trump self-coup attempt now in progress and is widely viewed as a practice run for the 2024 election, when Trump plans to run for president again despite having lost in 2020. Ongoing Congressional investigation into this insurrection has revealed a lot of information about the nature of the coup in general.
