Freeze peach

The phrase "freeze peach" refers to arguments ostensibly supporting free speech where the arguer doesn't really seem to actually understand the basic concept of freedom of speech, and is using the phrase "free speech" more like a weapon than as a descriptor of an important principle.

The freeze peach warrior argument always seems to boil down to something like this: "I have a right to say that you should shut up. If you disagree, then you're against free speech – so shut up and stop censoring me!"

To such people, the phrase "free speech" has become just a set of phonemes they repeat like an incantation, and which could just as easily be heard as "freeze peach".

This is the mindset that drives the frozen fruit status quo warrior phenomenon, and to some extent the frozen fruit Nazi phenomenon (where the speaker may well understand the concept, but is using it as a means to an end in which they will suppress the free speech of others).0
