About
Mass media are communications media which permit a relatively narrow selection of content to be broadcast to a large number of people. At present, it is effectively synonymous with the mainstream media, although the two are in theory somewhat different concepts – e.g. a mainstream media company (one reaching a large percentage of the potential audience) might host a forum for public discussion, which would then be a mainstream media forum but (because of its social nature) not mass media.
Mass media is essentially the opposite of social media, in which multiple individuals provide input that is available to all the others.
