About
Educational censorship occurs when authorities act to hinder the teaching or classroom discussion of certain subjects. This can take the form of book banning or other initiatives designed to create a chilling effect around the topics in question.
The motives appear to be:
- rage farming: the subjects chosen are typically outside the mainstream, and can therefore be misrepresented (to the uninformed) as innately harmful
- preventing access to important information which would reveal the censors' political stances as inaccurate and harmful, thus maintaining an audience of the uninformed for future rage-farming
